Project: Destiny DLC Launch

Client: ICHI Worldwide

ICHI tasked us with the production of a ‘moving picture’ to help with the launch of Destiny’s DLC. The core idea was to provide a feeling of uneasy movement, something that at first you think is still but actually there’s something uncanny about it.

Learning from the greats we proposed a Hitchcock focus pull - essentially moving the camera in as you change the focus, so that whilst everything seems to be in the same place the perspective is constantly changing. The result is an image that appears to breath, and is genuinely quite unsettling. Result. We love a bit of work that can make you feel a bit queasy.

We had the usual fun and games associated with taking game assets and making them into pretty renders. It was then a challenge to then integrate these into a cohesive ‘whole’. Through a process of look development we gravitated to making the entire piece look like ‘bone that looks like stone’ (or stone that looks like bone). This allowed us to build around the assets with organic structures that tied everything together through some fancy procedural modelling. Build in some ever-so-gentle lighting changes and dust particles and viola! Moving Picture.
